The fourth and final matchup of the 2010 Kirk Herbstreit Classic was between Desoto and Arlington…
Polite looking for new options
Desoto (TX) quarterback Ryan Polite put up huge numbers in the Eagles win over Arlington Bowie in the 2010 Kirk Herbstreit Kickoff Classic. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound signal caller will need to keep putting up solid performances in order to get his recruitment back on track. Polite showed thousands of spectators that DeSoto meant business by putting on an offensive clinic all night long. He put up a gaudy 313 passing yards and five touchdowns in their 49-21 win over Arlington Bowie. He connected multiple times with senior receiver and TCU commit Cameron White, along with several of his other offensive weapons throughout the game. Polite has been starting on varsity since he was a freshman, and is a big reason why DeSoto has had one of the best offenses in the state over the past four years. The DeSoto signal-caller will need to keep performing at a high level this season in order to get his recruitment back to where he would like it to be. Polite held scholarship offers from Memphis and Louisiana-Monroe, but waited too long to pull the trigger and ended up missing out on both schools. "I had offers from both of them, but quarterbacks committed before I did. I was trying to await my options. So as of now I have no scholarship offers. I'm not really caring about it, I'm just trying to focus on the season, but if more offers come then it will be great," said Polite. A couple of schools have been expressing interest in the DeSoto gunslinger, and he hopes to turn that interest into a scholarship offer. "North Texas and UNLV have been looking at me. North Texas coaching called me on September 1, which was the first day they could call. They said they are interested in me." Polite plans on showing college coaches that he deserves an offer by continuing to put up big numbers and taking his team deep into the playoffs. "Every year we've been to the second round of the playoffs. This is the year for us to go all the way. We have a great defense and a great offense and we're real familiar with the coaches now. Nothing less than state this year!" Polite holds every school passing record including career passing yards (6,593). He threw for 4,056 yards and 39 touchdowns last year. Desoto will face Miramar (FL) High in week three of their 2010 season.
