Shaw Catches Chesapeake Bowl Invite

The Chesapeake Bowl held tryouts for their game on August 1st in Maryland and Ridley High School product Dion Shaw went down to prove his mettle and show he was worthy of a roster spot. On Wednesday night, he was rewarded with one.

Dion Shaw, a 6-foot, 180-pound wide receiver from Folsom, Pa., found out on Wednesday that he'll be in the inaugural Chesapeake Bowl and talked to him about that and recruiting.

"This is exciting, just really exciting," Shaw exclaimed. "At the tryouts I had the feeling I'd make the team, but then after seeing all these four and five star recruits getting selected for the team I didn't think I'd have a chance, so I'm relieved."

The Chesapeake Bowl of course is the one All-Star game that holds open tryouts and was true to their word with putting players from those tryouts onto the roster, regardless of their offers or star status.

"Now that I'm in the game I do feel confident that I can do what I do best which is play a big game and help my team," Shaw added. "I run great routes, I have very good hands and no matter who the defensive back is I'm confident in my abilities, so it should be a fun game."

"Lately I've had Temple and Purdue send me mail and they want me to come up and see their campuses, so I'm going to both of them soon.

The Chesapeake Bowl will be played on December 30th and will put the North against the South. The North team is represented by players picked from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware and the South team is comprised of players from Maryland, Washington, D.C., West Virginia and Virginia. The location of the game has not been decided yet, but should be announced shortly and all participants will go home with their own personalized jersey and a custom bowl ring which can be seen below in a lower resolution. The game will be open to the public. Recommended Stories
