De La Torre talks Texas visit
2012 Denton (TX) Ryan linebacker Alex De La Torre traveled to Austin this past weekend on an unofficial visit to watch Texas take on UCLA. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound defender had a great time on his visit despite the Longhorns 34-12 loss to the Bruins. "It went great, the food was great, the coaches were great, the crowd was great, everything was really good," said De La Torre. De La Torre got a chance to better familiarize himself with the Longhorn coaching staff throughout the weekend. "I spent a little time with Coach Brown, Coach Muschamp and my recruiter, Coach Kennedy and they all basically said that they were glad that I showed up and of course, I was excited to be there. They told me to stay hungry." The Denton linebacker enjoyed himself the entire time he was there, but one particular moment stood out from the rest. "My favorite part of the visit was going into Coach Brown's office and looking around and talking to all the coaches with my teammates before they went out to the field. It was an awesome time." De La Torre has openly named Texas as his favorite for some time and that hasn't changed. The Longhorns will likely be keeping a close eye on the Denton standout throughout his junior season and he should be a strong candidate to receive an offer when they extend them during their next junior day. De La Torre is one of the top 2012 defensive prospects in the state of Texas. He finished his sophomore season with a gaudy 154 tackles, nine sacks, two forced fumbles and two interceptions. De La Torre and his teammates are off to a perfect 5-0 start to their 2010 season. He recorded seven tackles (six tackles for a loss) and two sacks last week in their 33-13 win over Lake Dallas. They have a bye week and will take on Rider HS on October 7.
