Rutgers landed its 14th member of the 2011 class when corerback Jonathan Aiken of Chaminade Madonna…
Scout's Take: Rutgers S commit
What to Like: He was a playmaker at Chaminade last season. He was around the ball a lot, showing the ability to play strong safety and make a lot of plays near the line of scrimmage. He plays with good instincts and seems to understand the game pretty well and have a good feel for the position. He blocked six kicks on special teams, too, which is rare and showed the ability to be a difference maker in that part of the game. He comes from a good prep program in south Florida and brings a lot of good qualities to the table as a prospect. What May Concern You: At 5-foot-10 and 185 pounds, he lacks ideal size for a safety prospect. He doesn't have great range to play free safety and hasn't made a ton of plays in pass coverage. He's probably a little further ahead as a strong safety at this point. Another concern is that while he had an excellent junior season, he hasn't played a single down so far this season. Bottom Line: Rutgers has always done a solid job recruiting the state of Florida under Greg Schiano and this is another quality pickup for them. Aiken is a good football player from a quality program and he's a kid who should be able to go in and play right away. He has good instincts, he's a sharp kid on the field, and has made a lot of plays. He's a solid three-star caliber prospect headed to Rutgers.
