Name: Channing Ward
School: Aberdeen (MS)
Position: Defensive End/Tight End
Size: 6-3, 230-pounds
Recruitment: Offered by Tennessee, LSU, Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss
Scout.com Ranking: National 100 Member
Scout.com live evaluation: Channing Ward put his name on the
map this past summer when he ran between a 4.43 and 4.51 at the Ole Miss, MSU,
Tennessee, LSU, and Alabama camps. Scholarship offers were soon rewarded after
his showing at the individual camps.
Channing is a true pass rusher as his first step is lightening quick. He is also just as effective in run defense as he continually spun off his blockers to give help inside. He will need to continue to work on staying lower coming off of the ball, but he has the athleticism and size to become a big time pass rusher on the next level.
LSU has actually offered Channing for the offensive side of the ball at tight end. Ward is a physical blocker and has the speed to separate from the defenders in his routes.
Scout.com was in attendance for Ward's game against Winona where he recorded
12 tackles, 2 sacks, 4 tackles for losses, and 3 receptions for 52 yards.
