Scouting: Simeon vs Lane Tech
CHICAGO SIMEON Chris Bryant - Sr. - Offensive Lineman - (6'5 / 320) Bryant sat out this game with a "tweaked" knee. He indicated to us that he could have played, but is saving himself for the playoffs. He appeared to be fine walking around on the sidelines. Jordan Diamond - Jr. - Offensive Tackle - (6'6 / 280) Diamond overcame what appeared to be some boredom at the start of the game to finish very strong. He was easily blocking his man out of the play for the early part of the game as Simeon built a huge lead. Still, we weren't seeing dominance. It looked like Bryant got in his ear a bit and that changed completely. He sprung a touchdown run by pulling around and destroying a linebacker in the open field. He followed that up with six consecutive pancakes (we counted). If he keeps up that intensity level, he'll firmly establish himself as one of the the best in the country. Robert Gregory - Jr. - Quarterback - (6'3 / 180) Gregory did not have to do a lot today, but he certainly made the most of his limited snaps. He completed all three of his pass attempts, accouting for 92 yards and two touchdowns and rushed once for a 50-yard score. He's a true dual threat, but he has improved as a pocket passer. He showed his arm strength on a deep out, and something we saw again was his touch, as he dropped in a fade route beautifully to the outside. Demarius Reed - Sr. - Cornerback/Receiver - (5'9 / 155) Reed is a big play waiting to happen. He caught a touchdown pass which showed his open field speed. He also did a nice job on the corner, breaking up the only pass intended for him. He broke quickly, showed good hips and ball skills on the play. Having seen him in person and on tape, I think he'd be a great college corner, although he could be a very good slot receiver as well. The only concern on him would be size. Darius Scott - Sr. - Receiver/Cornerback - (5'9 / 150) Scott had a big game, scoring on a reverse and turning in some dazzling punt returns. He is very quick and just has a knack for making defenders miss in the open field. In college, he will probably be a slot receiver and return man, although corner is not out of the question. Horactio Banks - Sr. - Running Back - (5'8 / 170) Banks had a good game as well. He hits the hole hard and has breakaway speed. He is not very big, and that is part of the concern, but he can play at the next level. He can be used in the slot, on returns, and do a variety of things out of the backfield. Devonte Elzy - Jr. - Wide Receiver (6'4 / 170) Long strider with good speed, which he showed on a catch and run. Very thin at this point and needs to fill out, but has ability. Adjusted well to the fade that Gregory threw for a TD. Darren Monroe - Jr. - Guard (6'3 / 370) Good interior lineman who opened up some big holes inside. Will need to drop weight, but he got the job done in this game and was a key in Simeon's big runs. Shaquille Joyner - Jr. - Linebacker (6'0 / 210) He's a thick kid who plays in the middle and is physical. He'll have to show more in space at his size, but he's a tough kid who will hit you.
