Illinois Junior Visits Notre Dame

West Leyden (Ill.) junior linebacker Nelson Lugo is starting to hear from many top Midwestern schools, including Notre Dame, who he visited over the weekend.

West Leyden linebacker Nelson Lugo is hearing from a lot of schools now, and he is open to each and every one of them.

That said, he admits he grew up watching Notre Dame. This weekend, he took an unofficial visit there, his first as a recruit.

"I actually went to watch them play Western Michigan this weekend, but I've always watched Notre Dame. When I went there signed in and got something to eat went on tour of campus, watched players warm up before game and talked to the coaches and some of the players. They talked to us as a group, not individually."

This will not be his last visit though, as his travel schedule gets pretty full for the next few months.

"I just got a message from Northwestern and I am going to the Michigan State-Northwestern game this weekend. I think I have Penn State at the end of this month and Wisconsin next month."

Lugo camped at Notre Dame and says he has had mail from Penn State and Wisconsin along with Minnesota, Missouri and Stanford.

At 5'11 and 200-lbs, Lugo plays linebacker, but has the skills to project elsewhere as well.

"Probably linebacker," he said of his college position, "but that's even though I do a lot of safety now and then."
