On a perfectly clear day in Chicago, the long snappers of states such as Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky and Kansas came out and did a terrific job. The Midwest continues to be a hotbed of talent for long snappers and the next generation seems to be filling in very well. The overall winner of the Nike Fall Camp in IL for long snappers was Chris Fitzpatrick (2012, KY). He did a terrific job during the competition and handled the pressure like a champ.
Of course, a couple long snappers stood out throughout the day and here they are:
2011: Kelly Mason has really transformed his body and was whipping the ball back there. His improvement in the past year is uncanny and he is now definitely someone to keep an eye on. Matt Giampapa flew in from TN and made the trip worthwhile by throwing back snaps in the .7s time and time again. Grant Ellington showed extremely quick hands and blocked very well.
2012: Scott Daly was the overall best long snapper in attendance. The kid passes the eyeball test right off the bat and snaps bullets. If he continues on this path, there would be no reason he wouldn't be a scholarship long snapper. Chris Fitzpatrick ended up winning the competition and was smooth throughout the day. Taybor Pepper has been working hard and it is paying off with his speed. When he is on, he is on.
2013: Scott Sypniewski showed why he is one of the top long snappers in his class as he is very smooth and oozing with potential.
Rubio Long Snapping and Chris Sailer Kicking will be touring the country this fall with their next stop being Chicago, followed by TX, NC and GA. All Nike Fall Camps lead right into the biggest camp of the year for long snappers, the 9th Annual National Snapping Event sponsored by Nike in Las Vegas on January 15-16, 2010.
