"No one knew I was going to Oxford," recalled Joe Price
when asked why
he visited Ole Miss instead of MSU this past weekend. "I kept it to myself.
I just wanted to see what it was like at Ole Miss."
How did the trip go?
"It was real/real nice up there to be truthful. I liked the atmosphere a
lot. Everything went well. That was my first Ole Miss game to go to so it was
What new did Joe learn?
"I liked how they run their offense. I like Jeff Scott
and how they use him.
I know if Jeff can do it I can do it because we are the same type of back. To
be honest, I am kind of second guessing (my commitment to MSU) now. I can see
myself at Ole Miss."
Why is Joe having second thoughts?
"I am still committed to MSU, but I am going to talk it over with my former
coaches and players and see what they have to say and make a final decision after
my season is over. I like Ole Miss a lot now but nothing is set."
What was Price wanting to learn about Ole Miss before he came on the trip and
what did he discover about those issues?
"The coaches at Ole Miss have been telling me that if I come in and work
hard I could play up there. Coach (Derrick) Nix said they only had one speed back
and they needed another one. He told me that he plays his best players and it
didn't matter what year they were so I wanted to see how involved they would get
Jeff Scott in their offense. Jeff is a freshman and we are real similar so I wanted
to see if they were being truthful about all of that, and once I saw how successful
Jeff was in their system, I was like that could be me. We are the same type of
back, you know. I know if he can do it, I can do it. Ole Miss is not guaranteeing
me that I am going to start or get in the rotation or anything, but I know I can
get in the rotation with Jeff. Really, the main thing I wanted to look at is their
depth at running back. They only have two or three backs in the rotation but Brandon Bolden
and Jeff Scott are the ones who get all of the carries. Brandon is also going
to be a senior next year so it going to be wide open. I know I can get a lot of
playing time if I go to Ole Miss and that really has my attention."
Joe doesn't plan to rush into a final decision.
"I want to just concentrate on my season right now, and then once I am done
with that, I am going to really research everyone a lot harder and take some official
visits and see what everyone has to offer. I am in no big hurry."
Madison Central lost their first game of the season last Friday to N' West Rankin 24-21. Joe had a 65-yard TD reception and around 80 rushing yards in the contest.
