Mickey Johnson talks Death Valley

Mickey Johnson, four-star defensive tackle from Covington-St. Paul's School, La., is one of the top uncommitted players in the South. LSU is hoping to keep the elite prospect at home, and he traveled Saturday to Baton Rouge.

"The trip was nice," said Mickey Johnson. "The game was hard fought. Both teams really came out to play. The best man won though.

"The atmosphere was great. I don't think anything is like it. I talked to a whole bunch of guys. They said nothing compares to Death Valley. I can see where they are coming from after visiting yesterday.

"I talked to coach Cooper and coach Wilson. They were just telling me to keep in touch. They were asking how I liked the game. They asked me if I think it's a place I would feel at home."

Johnson is feeling the love from LSU and has a lot of friends who are Tigers.

"I like LSU a lot," said Johnson. "They are recruiting me harder than anyone. I am good friends with a bunch of players like Russell Shepard, Drake Nevis and Jordan Jefferson. They are all around good guys. I am good friends with a lot of players in the recruiting class. LSU really treats you like family."

Johnson plans to attend the LSU-Ole Miss game and will take official visits after the season. The schools under consideration include Alabama, UCLA, Nebraska, Oregon, Michigan, Florida State and LSU.
