Frank Richardson is a very good player who happens to play for one of Mississippi's top 5A programs. Frank has been part of a special group at New Hope that have turned the program into one of the region's most respected. Richardson is looking to take his talent and leadership on to the next level in hopes of helping a college program reach new heights as well.

Last year the Trojans fell to eventual 5A state champion West Point in the north state title game.

New Hope is back in the playoffs again this season and appear to be on a familiar path.

"We just started playing together as a team last year," said Frank. "Last year we sort of became like a family. We decided nothing was going to get in between us and our goal.

"Once we all came together, we started winning."

Richardson will lead his team into battle this week against a familiar post season foe.

"We play Ridgeland this week. We beat them in the second round last year, but I think they are even better this year," said Frank. "I know we're going to have to bring our A game.

"It's like Coach Bradley says. In the playoffs it doesn't matter what the records are or what you did last year."

Richardson is making plays for Coach Michael Bradley on both sides of the ball. Frank has always been a big hitter, but he is learning to be a more complete player this season.

"I feel like I am doing better on offense," said the Golden triangle standout. "I have always been pretty strong on defense, but I am getting the ball a lot more in different ways on offense and helping the team.

"On defense I have always wanted to make people pay if they caught the ball in my zone. I am still trying to do that."

Richardson is happy to see his high school career extended. He is hopeful that these playoffs games will give him even more chances to prove his value to college recruiters.

"I am hearing from a couple of schools," said Frank. "Tennessee State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss and Memphis are sending me some things. I have been to some games this year at Southern Miss and Ole Miss."

Of course the path Richardson chooses to take will depend on his options, but he has a good idea about what would be a best case scenario.

"I am looking for a place where I fit in and I can make plays in the system," said Frank. "I just want to help the team.

"Academics come first and I want to be sure I get my degree. I am thinking about majoring in something to do with culinary."
