5-Star RB Game Breakdown: Brandon Williams
In the game against the tough West Orange Stark team, Brookshire (TX) Royal running back Brandon Williams was running wild en route to a 24-21 win. The Oklahoma commit put the team on his back and carried the load. Check out what he did each quarter. First Quarter: First play for Royal goes to Williams with a toss sweep to the right side. He picked up 12 yards. The next play on the drive went to Williams again, this time a hand sweep left and he gets loose for a 33-yard gain followed by a dive left for three yards (no points for Royal on opening series). After a defensive stop on fourth down, Royal got the ball back on 10-yard line. Williams got the call. The play started as a dive right, but Williams cut against the grain and dove in for a 10-yard score. In he final series for Royal in the first quarter, Williams had a sweep right for seven yards and had another carry up the middle for five yards. One thing is for certain with Williams, on the sweep, when he turns the corner the potential to score is there. Second Quarter: After slipping down for negative yards, Williams comes back with a strong 3-yard touchdown run. He ran through a couple defenders for the score. He ran a couple plays, sweep left and off tackle for a couple yards. On the second series of the quarter, Royal got Williams in space with the bubble screen plays and picked up eight and five yards. Towards the end of the half, Williams got loose for a 26-yard run. At halftime, Williams had 114 yards and two touchdowns. Third Quarter: Williams came out on fire in the second half with a sweep left for six yards then gets loose up the middle for a 53-yards, only to be caught by top 2012 athlete Justin Thomas (ironically, Thomas finished second to Williams in the Class 3A state track meet in the 200-meter run). A few plays later, Williams showed a lot of power and busted through two defenders for a 3-yard touchdown. After that, he followed up with another tough run on left sweep for 11 yards and another off tackle for nine yards. Fourth Quarter: Not much action from Williams as he finished the game with short runs of four, two and four. The Royal team did not have the ball much this quarter and this is where West Orange Stark scored most of its points. He finished the game with 25 carries for 210 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 8.2 yards per carry. Keynote: Williams did play some cornerback on defense and unofficially had four tackles. Had an impressible tackle for loss on third down in the first quarter.
