Rubio Long Snapping and Chris Sailer Kicking traveled deep in the heart of Texas to Grand Prairie South HS and came away seeing some quality long snapping talent. Long Snappers representing TX, LA, MS, AR, OK and CO came to show off their ability and that they did on a great day in TX. Long snapping instructor Chris Rubio of Rubio Long Snapping and Chris Sailer Kicking were on hand guiding the long snappers through the several sections of the camp. The camp focused on on-field instruction and also incorporated film/classroom review, recruiting seminar led by the NCSA along with Rubio and Chris Sailer, and wrapped up with a competition. The winner of the competition earned a FREE admission to the 9th Annual Snapping Event sponsored by Nike in Las Vegas on January 15-16, 2011.
The weather was very windy but that was no problem as all the long snappers ventured into the indoor facility for a great day of instruction and competition. Several of the long snappers did very well while others had a couple of hiccups with the blocking and pressure throughout the day. The overall winner of the Nike Fall Camp in TX was long time Rubio Long Snapping student JJ Drescher of Southlake Carroll HS. JJ is a legacy as his brother Justin, University of Colorado & NFL free agent, also went through the Rubio ranks. JJ was nails all day and showed a great deal of confidence and strength. He continues to be a very fluid and consistent long snapper with tremendous size.
JJ was one of the best ones in attendance, but he was not alone. Here are some of the long snappers that stood out:
2011
Nolan Frese (TX) looked like a gem all day. Great, long frame and super form make him an excellent long snapper. Very, very smooth and consistent with good speed.
Cody Esquival (TX) showed outstanding speed and athleticism. Not the largest snapper in attendance, but just might have been the fastest. Very solid long snapper.
Luke Sims (CO) came down and proved he is one of the most consistent and accurate long snappers in the country. Solid body and an easy to catch snap. When he gets set, he is outstanding. Like a machine on PATs.
BJ Jordan (TX) looked very good for his first Rubio Long Snapping camp. Handled pressure well and has a thick body. Very strong for his size and ball really pops back there.
Craig Fischer (TX) is one of the smoothest long snappers out there. Handles pressure very well and is unstoppable when he gets in a groove.
Glenn Kolbrenner (TX) and Cade Oliver (TX) are two JC long snapper’s that have benefited immensely from the extra year of work. Both snap with solid aggression and confidence. Both have quick snaps and are strong. Impressed by both of them.
2012
Kyle Ashby (TX) continues to impress and work on moving up the ranks within his class. Thick, strong body and a smooth snap on this big junior. Keep an eye on him for the future.
Luke Burnham (MS) did exceptionally well. Really has improved a ton in one year. Ball is very explosive. Snaps like a firecracker.
Bobby Geibler (TX) has improved so dramatically you almost wouldn’t recognize him! Getting bigger and stronger and his snapping is benefiting. He keeps improving like this and he will be in the top 5 in no time.
Brent Nicholson (TX) has massive frame that he uses very well. Couple minor adjustments and he is well on his way to greatness.
Rubio Long Snapping and Chris Sailer Kicking will be touring the country this fall with their next stop being Georgia on Sunday, December 12 followed by California on January 9.
