As both states enter big semi-final playoff action in all six classifications on Friday, 10 members of the Alabama All-Star team roster are on teams still alive in the AHSAA playoffs, while 20 members of the Mississippi team will also be in action.
In Alabama, defending 6A state champion and number one ranked Hoover, which will face Mountain Brook in one semi-final, has two players in the game – wide receiver/tight end Jaylon Denson, an Auburn commitment, and offensive lineman Brandon Morgan. Mountain Brook will be represented by linebacker Miller Williams.
Two more Team Alabama players on the defensive line -- Auburn commitment Jabrian Niles and Denzell Perine -- will lead the Davidson defense in its big 6A semi-final matchup with Daphne.
In 5A, Spanish Fort, which will travel to McAdory for its semi-final – has two players on the Alabama team roster – Auburn commitment Reese Dismukes and linebacker Blake Dees, a Texas Tech commitment.
Briarwood Christian, which will take on Hartselle in the other 5A semifinal, has kicker Wilson Whorton in the game and head coach Fred Yancey, who will serve as the head coach for Team Alabama in this year’s contest.
In Mississippi, eight All-Star Classic players will take the field in the state’s two 6A semi-finals.
Top-ranked South Panola, also ranked second in the nation by USA Today, continues in quest for its seventh state title in eight years when they face Madison Central.
Three South Panola players are on the roster -- Mississippi State commitments Kendrick Market and Nicklos Brassell, and highly-productive running back Qyen Griffin, who has rushed for 2,292 yards and scored 31 TD’s this season. He exploded for 243 yards in last week’s 24-13 quarter-final win over Olive Branch.
Meridian, which faces Oak Grove in the other 6A semi-final, also has three players on this year’s Team Mississippi roster – defensive lineman Lauren Jackson, linebacker Jacoby Eason and defensive back Shaquille Fluker.
The state’s top-ranked 5A team, West Jones, also continues in its quest for a state title and is led by a pair of All-Star Classic players – quarterback Ben Stevens and running back Devontay Barnett.
A total of 34 All-Star Classic players have already committed to play at major colleges next year, 26 of them in the SEC.
