Washington (D.C.) Archbishop Carroll junior wide receiver Lamont Baldwin has been hearing from a number of schools including Penn State, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Rutgers, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Boston College. The 6-foot-4, 196-pound, athlete most recently visited Penn State for the second time this season.
“I was at the Indiana game and then I went up this weekend for the Michigan State game,” Baldwin said. “It was pretty cold, but the game was exciting. I like watching No. 6 (Derek Moye) he reminds me a lot of myself and how he plays is very similar to my style. I really like the basic look that Penn State has. The uniforms are plain, but they look good. The fan base there is incredible. I have never seen that many people in one place in my life. Coach (Larry) Johnson has been emailing me and sending me letters. I’m going to probably go up for their spring game.”
Baldwin considers Maryland the hometown team and he watched the Terrapins battle Florida State.
“I had fun there, I really liked it,” said Baldwin. “They had the Blackout going on and it was real nice. I like Coach (James) Franklin a lot. I love the uniforms. I’m more of a Nike guy, but I could get used to the Under-Armour. I like watching Danny O’Brien and the wide receiver Torrey Smith, he can play. I like Maryland a lot.”
Being a bigger wide receiver that was one of the things that caught Baldwin’s eye on his trip to Pittsburgh with twin tower wide receivers Mike Shanahan and Jon Baldwin who are both (6’-5”).
“I liked Pitt a lot and they throw the ball,” explained Baldwin. “They use those big receivers (Baldwin and Shanahan) and they are big targets like me. I like to see how player’s progress and get to the league and Pitt has a lot of guys in the league. I liked their practice facility and Heinz Field and how they share them with the Steelers. I like the city there is a nice little vibe there. Coach (Scott) Turner is the wide receivers coach and he is recruiting me, so it’s nice to be able to build that bond early. Some schools might have like a defensive line coach recruiting you and when you get there he isn’t going to be the one coaching you.”
Baldwin visited Piscataway a few weeks ago to see Rutgers play Syracuse.
“I like watching Kenny Britt, he was from Rutgers and he is a big guy like me,” Baldwin stated. “I’m friends with Brandon Coleman who is taking a red shirt. I got to talk to him a lot when I visited. I like their fan base and how excited they get for the team. They run that wildcat and I don’t really like that offense when people do that. I did like the coaching though, it always seemed like they called the right plays in all the right situations.”
Family ties could draw the talented junior to Atlanta for a visit with Georgia Tech.
“I always talk to Coach (Al) Groh,” he said. “I’m planning on going down there in January. One of my former teammates Jeremiah Attaochu plays there and I have a lot of family down in Atlanta.”
Another ACC school has made a solid impression of Baldwin for the same reason why Pittsburgh is so appealing.
“Coach (Ryan) Day is recruiting me and he also coaches the receivers,” Baldwin stated. “He came down here and saw me working out in the spring and he seems like a real good dude.”
