JC Spotlight - Xavian Evans, One to Watch

Fulton. Miss. - Xavian Evans of Itawamba Community College is a defensive end that may be new to the position, but he looks to have found a home for a long time.

Xavian Evans (6-5/265) of Itawamba Community College jumps of the screen when watching the Indians play. His size and frame immediately draw attention, but then his athleticism becomes the attention grabber.

Evans has the size and strength to bull rush opposing offensive tackles or simply grab on to them and chuck them out of his way. Should he meet up with an equally strong lineman, it's unlikely that said tackle can match Evans' quickness and speed.

A call to defensive line coach Charlie Wilburn of Itawamba revealed that Evans currently has offers from several Sun Belt schools, but the bigger BCS schools have yet to show the same level of interest.

Part of the reason for the lack of attention on such a talented athlete is that 2010 was only Evans' first season on the defensive line. He played tight end as a freshman at Itawamba before making a move during spring practice last year.

Evans quickly made himself at home, finishing 2nd Team All-State as a sophomore in Mississippi's competitive junior college ranks.

Evans is a May graduate who played his high school ball at Pontotoc and will have three years to complete two years of eligibility in college.
