Harrisburg (Pa.) Central Dauphin East junior wide receiver Shelby Wilkerson
is one of several talented underclassmen on the Panthers team and the future is bright. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound, receiver has been hearing from Pittsburgh
. Wilkerson checked out Pittsburgh on Friday, during the Backyard Brawl.
"I'm being recruited by Brian Angelichio and he is a very good guy. I enjoy talking with him," Wilkerson said. "The visit to Pitt was great. I loved the stadium and everything was well organized. I think it would be a good school to go to. I watch them on TV a lot. Coach Angelichio came by the school earlier in the year to look at me and Aris Scott.
"I also camped at Pitt this summer," Wilkerson continued. "I think I did pretty well there. Coach is coming to my school soon to get film on me and Aris for the staff to evaluate, so hopefully they like what they see."
Wisconsin is another school which has been showing interest in Wilkerson.
"I have spoken to Coach (Joe) Rudolph a few times," Wilkerson stated. "He said they are interested in me and they want to see my film."
Wilkerson is just trying to compare and contrast different things from the schools he is looking at to see where he fits best.
"I want to major in sports management, so that will be important," Wilkerson said. "I want to go to a place with nice facilities and where it is organized and everything is the way it should be. I have to know how I would be used and how I can benefit the team. A family atmosphere and a good environment are very important to me as well."
This season, Wilkerson caught 20 passes for 380 yards and three touchdowns. He earned 2nd team All-Mid Penn Conference honors.
There is a lot of talent in the Harrisburg area, but Central Dauphin East hasn't turned out as many players as some of the other schools in the area. Shelby Wilkerson and his teammates are hoping to change that.
