Signing day for the class of 2011 has come and gone and now we start to look ahead to the next class…
Rankin Has Several Options
Bloomsburg (Pa.) junior quarterback Blake Rankin has put up some incredible stats as a dual-threat quarterback. The 6-foot-4, 195-pound, gunslinger has put up some impressive stats this season completing 74 of 150 passes for 1,600 yards and 17 touchdowns and only three interceptions. He also ran for 977 yards and 16 touchdowns. The talented signal caller already holds one offer from Rutgers that he picked up over the summer. "I went up to a one day camp at Rutgers and they offered me after the camp was over," Rankin said. "I sent them film of me before I went up there. I went to the camp and they were impressed with what they saw. I was surprised by the offer; I really wasn't expecting it so early." Rankin has also attended a few homes games at Rutgers. "I saw them play North Carolina and Louisville," Rankin explained. "I like it there; it's a real nice area. The facilities, especially the weight room are great. Coach (Kirk) Ciarrocca and Greg Schiano are real good guys. You can tell they really care about their players and they have turned the program around. Rankin's most recent journey was to Penn State to see the Nittany Lions take on Michigan State. "The atmosphere and the crowd is awesome," he said. "It's really a beautiful campus. The facilities are exceptionally nice. Coach (Mike) McQueary is recruiting me and he seems very intense. I like how he is upfront with me. He told me they are looking at three quarterbacks and I am one of them. I think the other two are Brendan Nosovitch (Allentown Central Catholic) and D.J. Crook from (Barnstable). They are going to evaluate our films and then decide what to do." The upstart Connecticut Huskies also made a lasting impression on Rankin. "I watched UConn play Pittsburgh," stated Rankin. "It was a real nice trip. The field is further away from the school than I thought it was, that was a little bit different. The offensive line coach (Mike Foley) is recruiting me. The campus up there is amazing it is a real good area. The facilities are nice and are basically brand new. Coach (Randy) Edsall is a real good guy, I like him a lot." Rankin visited Pittsburgh for the Rutgers game and he saw a different vibe than he did when he attended games as a kid watching Tyler Palko. "I liked it a lot at Pitt, I really liked the city," Rankin stated. "I worked with Luke Getsy when I was out at their camp and Coach (Frank) Cignetti. I like them and I like the style of offense that they run. My sister is good friends with Henry Hynoski and he always talks about how much he loves it there. The stadium is incredible and I like how they share it with the Steelers. The crowd is more supportive than I remember when I went to games there before. When I was younger we used to go there to see Tyler Palko. I worked out with him and his dad a lot with the George Curry QB camps." Rankin has also been hearing from Maryland, North Carolina State, Akron and Bowling Green.
