Arkansas TE commit on the mend
Hurst (TX) L.D. Bell tight end Chris Barnett selected the Razorbacks over several of the nations top programs back in October. Since then, the 6-foot-6, 250-pound playmaker is still as firm as ever in his commitment to the Hawgs, and is focused on recovering from a knee injury he suffered late in the season. Shortly after Barnett pledged his services to the Razorbacks, he suffered a season-ending knee injury that would require surgery. Since then, the four-star prospect has been focused on getting back on the field as soon as possible. "I tore my ACL in week 10 against Colleyville Heritage. I was running a 10-yard post-route and I spun around a linebacker and my right foot got stuck in the turf and I tore my ACL," said Barnett. The Hurst tight end plans to have his knee surgically repaired in the upcoming weeks and also hopes to arrive in Fayetteville as an early enrollee. "I'm having surgery on my knee in December right before Christmas. After that I plan on getting to Arkansas as an early enrollee. I had a high enough GPA and completed enough classes to leave early. I plan on getting to Fayetteville in January or February, that way the training staff there can help me rehab my knee so hopefully I can be back by June or July." Barnett chose the Razorbacks over several other schools including Alabama, Miami, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, UCLA and USC. There were multiple reasons why he decided to play his college ball at Arkansas. "I like Arkansas because they play in the SEC and every week you have to bring your best. To be the best you have to beat the best. I also like the fact that two of their tight ends are leaving after this season and I have the chance to get on the field as a freshman." Barnett will not be taking any more official visits. He plans on working out his upper body and his core while rehabbing from his knee surgery. He is Scout.com's ninth ranked tight end in the 2011 recruiting class.
