2011 5-star LB Curtis Grant is fresh off a visit to Ohio State and is impressed by things many high school seniors might not even notice. He really likes what he saw from the people in Ohio.
"Here's what I love about Ohio State: what you see is what you get. They are so humble there and there isn't a whole bunch of extra stuff. They are just chill and they don't force you to commit or anything. I really like that. It's an awesome place. It is so nice and everybody is so cool. It was still fun even though like half of the students weren't there."
There's one guy that really sticks out to Grant, however, and it just so happens to be head coach Jim Tressel. Tressel made a great impression on Grant.
"He's the funniest guy ever. He's kind of corny but I like it. His personality is actually like mine. He acts goofy all the time but he's serious on the practice field. There wasn't even anything in particular that was funny. He just messes with people all the time and it was cracking me up."
For Grant, seeing people and talking to them in person is very important. Ohio State is the first school he visited officially and it was the first time he got to have serious one-on-one time with the OSU staff.
"I had always heard good things but I had to confirm it for myself and this pretty much did that for me."
Grant still isn't ready to name a leader but he says Ohio State, Florida, North Carolina and Virginia are the strongest in the running to get his services on the next level. He has scheduled an official to Florida as his next visit during the weekend of January 14th. After that he will take an official to North Carolina to finish off his visits.
As for Florida, Grant says he is still waiting to get some face time with new head coach Will Muschamp before deciding how he feels about him but he is intrigued by what he hears about Muschamp's experience with linebackers.
"I really like that he's a linebacker guy but I want to meet him face to face before I say anything for sure about him. He's great over the phone and I like him and all but I'm more about what someone is like when I meet them in person."
Speaking of a Florida tie, Grant says he texted former Florida commit and now OSU commit Ryan Shazier over the weekend.
"I just was asking him what made him decide to become a Buckeye now and he said it was a better fit for him. I remember when he was always all decked out in Florida stuff so that was crazy to see but he hasn't really tried to recruit me to Ohio State yet."
