"I have learned a lot out here this week," added the personable Cortez Hartzog
after Thursday's practice in preparations for last weekend's game between
Alabama and Mississippi. "I have been wanting to play in this game ever
since I was a little kid. I hope I am apart of the class that turns things back
around for us, but it is just an honor to be here."
Mississippi lost a heartbreaker in overtime to Alabama and now it looks like
Cortez will be focusing on USM next.
"I just liked their staff the best. They also have a history of winning,
and most importantly, it's just a good school. That is where I would want to
go even if I were not playing football."
One more things stood out about the Eagles.
"Plus, they graduate a large percentage of their football players. They
have a really good track record at that."
While many verbal commitments still keep doors open for other schools; don't
include this All-Star in that group.
"I am not looking around. I am going to take my official visit with USM
on January 21st and that's going to be it for me. I have found my school so
there is no need in me taking more visits."

The 6' 3", 280-pound defensive tackle out of Gulport consistently gave the offensive linemen fits all week. That is music to the Eagles' ears as he will report to Hattiesburg (MS) in June.
