Monroeville (Pa.) Gateway three-star safety Dondi Kirby has announced that he would be attending Illinois according to Gateway Head Coach Terry Smith. "Dondi Kirby has committed to the University of Illinois this morning December 20th." Smith said. "He visited the Illini December 10-12. He also took an official visit to Iowa this past weekend(December 17-19). "Dondi had official offers from the following schools: Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina State, Michigan, Ohio State, Florida, Louisville, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Minnesota, Cincinnati, North Carolina, Syracuse, Indiana, Iowa, Boston College, USC, Illinois, Marshall." Smith continued. "He plans to study communications. He will take part in the inaugural Chesapeake Bowl in Towson, Maryland but will not play." Dondi's final list came down to Iowa, Illinois, USC, Maryland and Florida. Kirby suffered a torn ACL during the summer and missed the entire 2010 season. Since 2003, Smith has now sent players to Illinois, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Michigan State, West Virginia, North Carolina, Miami University, Syracuse, Indiana, Navy, Kent State and Eastern Michigan.
