Widmer Ready to Get Started

Detroit Catholic Central's Jake Widmer did not even start last season, but if his performance at the Adidas Maximum Exposure event is any indication, he will be a name colleges will learn of.

This season was a learning experience for Jake Widmer, one that should prepare him to take the steps he needs to next season.

"I played left tackle, but I didn't start any games," the junior said. "I was behind Matt Godin in the lineup. Next year, they're saying we're both going to be the tackles."

Widmer certainly has the frame at 6'6, 255-lbs, and he showed at the recent Adidas Maximum Exposure event, that he has the mobility and tools to develop into a fine prospect.

"I thought it was good," he said of the event. "There were a lot of big kids out there. The competition was tough."

He held his own though, winning MVP at the camp. He hopes this will bring about college interest.

"No mail, not at all," he said. "This was my camp though; the first thing I've done."

When he does start hearing from schools, he is hoping a certain Big Ten program is one of them.

"Well, I've always like Penn State. They've always been my number one team, so it'd be really cool to get something from them."
