Every year around this time Prep Insider takes a look at the top players in the Houston area.

Overall MVP: ATH Howard Matthews, Clear Springs
We traveled to a lot of games this season and there was no athlete we saw who did more for his team than Matthews. Offense, defense and a solid special teams player, Matthews was money when his hands touched the ball and scored in many ways all year. The Texas A&M coaches snagged a good one from the Bayou City.

Offensive MVP: RB Dustin Garrison, Pearland
Not a hard choice after Garrison made several strides all year with nearly 3,000 yards on the ground. If you missed seeing this young man ball, you missed something special. In fact, find some game tape and checked it out. You’ll be impressed.

Defensive MVP: LB David Santos, Klein Collins
Santos, who has a bright future with the ‘BlackShirts’ at Nebraska, brought the heat with the Collins team. He finished with over 130 tackles and was a headhunter playing sideline to sideline.
