Kennard Backman
South Recruiting Manager

Kennard Backman has made his decision and he has committed to the Alabama-Birmingham Blazers.

"I have committed to UAB," Kennard Backman told Scout. "I enjoyed the time with the coaching staff during my visit and I feel like they offer the total package in education, social life, and football."

Backman is a 6-foot-3, 218 pound athlete out of Mableton (GA) Whitefield Academy.

Simmons' Thoughts: Backman is an athletic tight end that is more of a receiver than a blocker at that position. He has good straight-line speed, he is a guy who can work the seem, and he can be a weapon inside the red zone as well. He needs to keep getting stronger, improve his blocking technique, and grow into that every down tight end on the next level.

Chad Simmons started out with Scout in 2003 covering top talent in Georgia and other areas in the South. He then moved on to another Recruiting Service from 2004-2008 before returning to Scout the first of 2009 to become Southeast Recruiting Manager.
