Many of the Windy City's best came out for the Core6 Winter Showcase on Monday. Here are some notes…
Mangieri Gives the Latest
Nick Mangieri is still at one offer from Northwestern, but he is poised to pick up more once schools are able to see the athletic 6'5, 230-lb linebacker/tight end prospect. "I still have to get my film out and stuff," he admitted. The Wildcats saw enough and extended the first offer, and Mangieri has kept in touch with their staff since then. "Yeah, I've talked to Coach Fitz a little bit. He wants me to come down in February for a couple days and stay a night in the dorms." A 3.7 student in the classroom, Mangieri's academic prowess along with his ability on the field is drawing him a lot of looks. He says Wisconsin, Nebraska, where older brother P.J. plays, West Virginia, Purdue, Indiana, Illinois, and Iowa are among the other schools showing him interest. He does not have any junior day or spring visit plans yet though. "I haven't really thought about it that much, but we'll see, I'm sure I'll make some visits," he explained. So what about the Cornhuskers? His brother is their long-snapper, and so Nick is very familiar with the program. He'll already be heading down to see older brother play, and hopes to make contact with the coaches then. "I'll be down there for the spring game for sure to see my brother, but I haven't talked to any of the coaches for any other arrangements, but we'll see."
