Ekakitie Still Adding Offers
The offers have come regularly for Faith Ekakitie in recent months. The 6'3, 265-lb defensive end from Lake Forest Academy is well into double digits now, with the addition of two more from the Big Ten. "Indiana and Purdue are my latest offers," he reported. "Duke and Notre Dame should most likely be my next couple offers, maybe Michigan State as well." They would join a list that includes Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Northwestern, Boston College and several others. The aforementioned Fighting Irish may seem like a newer school for him, but he says he has been in contact with Notre Dame for quite some time. "I actually talked to them last year, my sophomore year and they said they were interested and recently, they started to follow up a bit more." The same goes for Michigan State, who are looking to take advantage of Ekakitie's Canadian roots to aid in a visit. The Spartans picked up a commitment this year from Canadian defensive back Arjen Colquhoun and are hoping lightning strikes again with Ekakitie. "The coach [from MSU] came down to watch a basketball practice before Christmas break. They told me they were real interested. We're trying to work out, since Michigan's pretty close to Canada, we're trying to work out a day for when I go back to Canada, maybe over spring break, to before I go back to Canada, visit Michigan State. Hopefully that will work out." Ekakitie's spring schedule may get busy with visits, but right now, he's actually concentrating on another sport. "I was supposed to go to Illinois junior day and Iowa junior day, but I had basketball, so I couldn't make it, but as soon as basketball's done, I'm going to start looking into junior days and taking some unofficial visits to schools that have offered and schools that I'm interested in." Hopefully that will help him get closer to narrowing down his growing list of offers, but for the moment, he is in no hurry. "I'm trying to take things slow, maybe some time in November (for a commitment date), take all my visits first and make a decision from there."
