UVA adds Thomas: Another 757 Guy
Mason Thomas committed to Virginia earlier this morning before heading back from his official visit with the Cavaliers. He describes it as a privileged more than a decision. "It was a big weekend. I told them this morning. Believe me it was a privileged not as much a decision." "It's just a great program and for the past three years they have been kind of down and with Mike London taking over I want to be part of that. He is a very powerful guy and passionate about turning this program around and leaving a legacy at UVA. And I want to be part of that. I am ecstatic to hop on board." The 6-foot-0, 185-pound wide receiver from Kempsville High (Virginia Beach, Va) joins the long-list of commits from the 757 area. "Out of 25 scholarships for the 2011 class, 14 or 15 came out of 757," said Mason's father. "I am looking forward to turning around and having a winning season and playing with all the guys you used to go up against back in the 757," said Mason. One of those is Demetrious Nicholson who committed to UVa on December 22. Mason talks about their friendship. "Tre is my boy. We are the closest. We work out together every Sundays but I had to miss this one of course. He was supposed to come up to UVa just to show his face and everything but that didn't work out." UVa hosted most of their recruiting class this weekend as well as several uncommitted prospects like five-star linebacker Curtis Grant and four-star cornerback and slot receiver Dominique Terrell. When asked if Mason talked to Grant and Terrell, he said he didn't have to speak to them much. "There were already 19 other players chirping in their ears," he said. "It was definitely exciting."
