Midwest Recruiting Notebook

Two of the Midwest's top tight ends committed over the weekend and we have updates on several new offers and prospects of interest.

  • We have learned that Canton Timken (Ohio) tight end Rakim Reed has committed to Marshall. A 6-4, 205-lb high school receiver. He will have a chance to create some real match-up problems for Thundering Herd opponents. Reed was also considering UConn.

  • Another tight end Steven Scheu from Evansville (Ind.) Memorial reported on Sunday that he had committed to Vanderbilt. He was also considering Kansas, Northern Illinois and others.

  • Miami (FL) has offered Minnetonka (Minn.) cornerback James Farrow. Farrow is currently committed to Virginia Tech. We hear his junior teammate, Charles Webb was offered by Minnesota as well.

  • Lansing Eastern running back Tyler Allen has committed to Eastern Michigan. We hear that the Eagles are also close to several more commitments, including a three-star out of state prospect.

  • One prospect making a late surge is Garfield Heights (Ohio) offensive tackle Mike McQueen. The 6-7, 265-lb senior was offered by Indiana, Toledo, Ohio and Bowling Green in recent weeks and may not be done yet.

  • Chicago Simeon cornerback Demarius Reed is another prospect the new Indiana staff offered. Reed took an official visit to Bloomington over the weekend. Reed said Pittsburgh is also showing increased interest in him.

  • Detroit Catholic Central (Mich.) junior DT Matt Godin reported that Cincinnati offered him over the weekend. That is his third offer to go with Duke and Buffalo.

  • Cincinnati Moeller wide receiver Monty Madaris reported that he was offered by Michigan State recently. Madaris was one of the stars of the Spartan summer camp and now adds that to his previous offer from Cincinnati.

  • Another Ohio junior, William Mason guard Joseph Spencer got his offer list started with the Ohio Bobcats, who offered him last week.

  • Corunna (Mich.) senior OT Jalen Schlachter visited Ball State over the weekend and committed to the Cardinals. The one time Indiana commit has also had contact from Eastern Michigan, Toledo, and others.

  • 2013 quarterback Shane Morris from Warren DeLaSalle (Mich.) reports that Toledo has offered him. He already holds an offer from Cincinnati.

  • Farmington (Mich.) QB Matt Craven says he is likely to accept a preferred walk-on offer to Michigan State.

  • Leo (Ind.) RB Connor Kacsor and Warren Central (Ind.) WR Shaquille Tensley have both committed to Dayton. Portage Northern (Mich.) CB Chris Laneaux was offered by Wayne State and St. Joseph. Detroit Loyola WR Tyrone Jarrett committed to Notre Dame College of Ohio.
