Hamm Picks Gannon

DeMatha's Jesstin Hamm described his weekend visit to Gannon University as feeling just right from both an academic and football standpoint. So right that the talent wide receiver committed to the Golden Knights earlier this afternoon.

Jesstin Hamm, a 6-foot-2.5, 180-pound wide receiver, is one of many 2011 DeMatha prospects. Over the years, Hamm has garnered interest from Cincinnati, Connecticut, Duke, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Penn State, Rutgers, Temple and Wake Forest among others. After a visit to Gannon University (1/21), his future became clear. He was offered the best of both worlds - playing time and career opportunities. Two things he could not turn down.

"I felt right about the whole academic scene. They lost their wide receiver and I could play right away. They told me I was number one on their board. I can further my career from a communication standpoint or football standpoint."

"I am just waiting to sign next week so that it is official!"

The talented wide receiver plans to major in communications with aspirations to work on-air for ESPN one day.

"Their communications degree along with their internship opportunities are great. School is very important to me and they can help me connect with ESPN."

Joining him on his visit was his mother, father and younger brother who were equally impressed with the private institution.

"It was a family thing. We were walking around campus and they love the campus and it was snowing. The campus is like a city type campus but it wasn't a problem. It was walking distance and most importantly, I can get that degree."

Hamm will not be alone as he heads to Pennsylvania. He looks forward to connecting with former DeMatha teammate and current Gannon quarterback Daniel Tapscott on the gridiron next year.
