Collura Confirms Feelings For Pitt

Collura Confirms Feelings For Pitt contacted 2011 prospect Sam Collura from DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, MD. The three-star tight end was at Pitt for his official visit and came away solid and ready to sign with the Panthers on Wednesday.

Sam Collura has had a very hectic final few weeks before signing day. The long time Pittsburgh verbal commitment was contacted by several schools since Pitt let go of former head coach Dave Wannstedt. Although he talked with several schools he maintained that he was still a commitment to Pitt. On the final weekend for official visits, Collura turned down other visit offers and went to Pitt. He came away with all questions answered and confident in his original decision.

"I am really glad I went," said Collura. "I really didn't have many questions; I just wanted to confirm my feelings."

We asked Sam what he was able to learn on this trip and why he reaffirmed his commitment to Pitt.

"It was just the feel that I knew it was the right place for me. The last time I came I was really impressed with everything but this time I got to spend more time with the players and coaches and watch them interact more. I got to see the chemistry amongst the coaches and with the other recruits. I hung out with the players a lot this trip. I spent time with Tino Sunseri, Mike Cruz and Mike Shanahan. They were really great guys. We went to Heinz Field and I got to try on one of the jerseys they have which was cool. It is a perfect distance from home that is still away but not too far for my family to see me play. I also met with the different coaches and got to build a stronger bond with them like the players. Head Coach Todd Graham and I talked about my role as well as the process on Wednesday for signing my letter of intent. It was the best visit I have had to any school by far."

Collura spoke more about his future role.

"Coach wants me to come in here ready to compete. He wants tough, physical players. He wants me to keep working on my speed and conditioning. He is big with conditioning because he wants us to be productive with the no huddle offense. He wants me to focus on my workouts and be ready to go when I get there."

When asked if he is completely done with the recruiting process now, Collura was quick to answer.

"I am 110% committed with Pitt. Several schools recruited me hard the past couple weeks like Duke, Michigan and Miami but Pitt is where I want to be and I knew that all along. I was committed for so long it is just a relief to be done with it and I just want to get up there with Coach Graham now. I have my Pitt hat and I am ready to sign on Wednesday." Recommended Stories
