"My coach, Coach Ballard came down at lunch and talked to me about Illinois giving me a verbal offer," Alex Jauregui told Scout. "Coach Ballard told me that the Illinois coaches liked my tape and that is why they offered."
"It was a big surprise for me. I did not know that I was getting looked at by them. I have gotten a few letters from Illinois, but not many. I did not see the offer coming, but I am excited that they did."
It puts Illinois high on his list now although he does not know a lot about them yet.
"I haven't been there or talked to their coaches yet, but the Botts (Jauregui's teammates Tanner and Tyler) have been have been there and they say the campus is nice and that it is a nice school. They are the first school to offer me and I think the first offer is important to most recruits. It stands out to me and they have to be up there now being the only offer I have."
A number of schools are showing heavy interest in this 6-foot-7, 295 pound offensive tackle out of Suwanee (GA) Peachtree Ridge though and more offers could come this spring.
"Coach [D.J.] Eliot and I talk about every other day and he told me he is bringing the offensive coordinator up to see me this spring. I get a ton of letters from just about every school too. Georgia, Florida State, Miami, and just about everyone. Most schools want to see me this spring first."
Jauregui may visit Florida this weekend for their Junior Day and he is thinking about checking out Nebraska too.
