Signee Spotlight: Sam Marshall

Sam Marshall, a three-star rated defensive tackle by Scout.com from Fredericksburg-Chancellor, Va., received a number of scholarship offers from schools in the Carolinas, Virginia and Michigan. He signed with Duke earlier this month. FOXSports/scout.com heard from the player on why he chose the Blue Devils and what's next

"My last three choices were
Virginia, Duke and NC State," Sam Marshall said of his pre-signing day choice. "I narrowed it down because I really liked the coaching staff, the area and the school in general.

"I really feel like it's up-and-coming. The coaching staff is teaching the players to get to the best of their ability, and I wanted to be a part of that," he added.

The athlete went on to describe his time at Duke thus far, including his official visit hosted by nose guard Charlie Hatcher.

"I took my official in the beginning of January and got to meet some of the players who are there now," Marshall said. "I've also been down for a couple of games. All around it's been a fun experience."

He continued about his relationship with the coaching staff.

"I've been in contact with Zac Roper, who was my recruitment coordinator, (assistant d-line) Coach [Rick] Petri, and Coach [David] Cutcliffe," Marshall explained. "They've told me to keep working hard and doing what I'm doing so I can help do good things for the team."

Marshall enjoyed a weekend get-together with family for signing day in celebration of his future with the Blue Devils.

Of his plans for next year, he added, "I want to bring a hard work ethic and overall awareness of the field, and getting a little more weight."
