"I got a preferred walk-on invitation from Louisiana Lafayette and Miami,"
added the Jackson native. "It is up for grabs right now. I have not committed
anywhere. I am trying to stay in the South if I can and both of those are southern
programs so I am happy."
When did Miami start getting in touch with Sam Cox
"I spoke to Coach Franklin a few days ago. They want me to play on the defensive
line. We talked about their grant opportunities. It is definitely an option, but
if I do not get a grant, it is going to be pretty difficult for me to go down
there. It is a very expensive school to attend."
Despite the uncertainly surrounding the money factor, the former Jackson Prep
standout sees a lot of positives in Miami.
"It's in Miami. You get to hang out on the beach and get a great education
and play for a tradition rich school. I have never been down there but I hear
it is awsome"
Louisiana Lafayette has several Mississippi ties on their coaching staff as they
hired Coach Hudspeth as their head coach, Reed Stringer
as their tight end/recruiting
coordinator coach, and David Saunders as their cornerback/assistant recruiting
coordinator coach. All three coaches came from MSU and Ole Miss. As a result the
Cajuns have been using their ties in the Magnolia state and actually inked 12
Mississippians in February.
Now they are looking to add one more.
"They told me I had a preferred walk-on spot for me, and then I called to
commit, and they told me that the spot had already been taken. But this past week
they called and said one became open, and they want me to take it. I do not know.
I am just going to think things through. I just retook the ACT test this past
Saturday, and I am hoping that I improved on it by a couple of points so I can
receive some scholarship money. If I do that will help give me some options."

While most prospects have already signed a letter-of-intent there are the remaining high school players who are trying to gain invited walk-on status. One of those that fit in that category is Sam Cox out of Madison, Miss.
