Profile: Jeremi Powell
Location: Largo, Fla.
High School: Pinellas Park
Position: Outside Linebacker
Recruiting: Powell was just picking up steam in recruiting, but he ended it shortly after picking up an offer from the Florida Gators. South Carolina, South Florida, Virginia, and a few others had offered as well.
Scouting Report: Powell is an athlete first and foremost. He does a little bit of everything for Coach Crawford at Pinellas Park, but he will likely settle in at outside linebacker at Florida. He has great speed, he accelerates well, and he knows how to explode through the ball carrier. He will need to add weight, but he has the frame to do that. He will also need to work on shedding potential blocks, working his hands, and dropping into coverage. He is not asked to do a lot of that at this stage, so he will have some things to learn when he gets to Gainesville. His athleticism stands out immediately. He can run, he pursues the ball well, he closes on the ball well, and he is a very physical player. He is an very good receiver on the high school level, so his ball skills will be very good at the linebacker position in college. Earl Everett comes to mind when watching him in action on tape and Powell has a lot of potential once he settles in, learns the position, and adds the weight.
