Decision looming for Gilbert
Austin (TX) Lake Travis tight end Griffin Gilbert announced yesterday that he hopes to make a final decision on his recruitment by the end of the month. Scout.com caught up with the 6-foot-5, 210-pound playmaker to discuss his finalists, what factors will influence his decision and more! Gilbert recently received scholarship offers from Texas, TCU, Texas Tech and Clemson. He broke down what he likes about each of his four finalists. Texas-"I've always lived in Austin and they have always been my favorite team. It's been my dream to become a Longhorn. Texas is also a great school academically and my brother (Garrett Gilbert) loves the program there." TCU-"Their campus is awesome. They have had so much success recently with winning the Rose Bowl and all. They also offer a great education and I've heard nothing but great things about them." Texas Tech-"I used to play with Michael Brewer and he is going there. I would love to catch passes from him. Tech also has a great campus and they are a great college town. They have had a lot of success on offense and they throw the ball a lot. I know it would a fun offense to play in." Clemson-"I've never actually been there but their campus looks beautiful. I'm really interested in them. My old high school coach is their offensive coordinator and it would be great to play for him again. I might take a visit there in April." The Lake Travis tight end indicated that he wants a school where he feels the most comfortable at and that provides a "home away from home" atmosphere. "I want a place where I can see my self living for the next four years. I also want to play for a successful program that has a nice campus lifestyle that makes me feel at home." Gilbert does not plan to graduate early, yet he wants to get the recruiting process over with so he can concentrate on other things including his upcoming senior season. "I want to get everything over with so I can just focus on the next football season. I'm thinking as hard as possible. The whole decision making process is stressful but it will be a big relief once I get it all over with." Griffin is the younger brother of Texas Longhorn's starting quarterback Garrett Gilbert.
