FRISCO, Texas – After much deliberation and time out on the field and in the film room Scout.com…
Ifedi's Consistent Focus
Germain Ifedi, the 6-foot-6, 310-pound, three-star offensive tackle from Westside High School in Houston, Texas, claims offers from Mississippi State, Baylor, Colorado, Missouri, Iowa State and Memphis. He still denies a leader. "I like all of them," Ifedi said. "I haven't decided on a two or three yet. I'm open." Baylor was Ifedi's first scholarship offer (in December) and he's already attended the Bears' Junior Day. "It was really nice," he said. "The coaches are very personable and because it was pretty small I got to spend some one-on-one time with them. They seem like great guys." Ifedi also likes the direction of the Baylor program. "They are up-and-coming," he said. "I think they'll have a really good future. They were down for a lot of years, but I can see them reaching elite status." The only other junior day that Ifedi attended was Texas A&M's. "But it was too big," he said. "There was like 100 people so you couldn't really talk to any of the coaches or anything. It was huge." Although he didn't get to speak with Aggies head coach Mike Sherman, Ifedi admits he's a big fan of his. "I've liked coach Sherman since he was the coach of the Houston Texans (in the NFL)," he said. "He's one of my favorite coaches." Another Lone Star State school that Ifedi says he likes is Texas Tech, but the Red Raiders have not offered yet. "They said they're very interested and will come and see me up close and personal this spring." He says he hopes to attend a Red Raiders' camp this summer. "They've always been a pretty consistent winner," he said about Texas Tech. "Plus, now they've got a proven winner as the head coach (Tommy Tuberville) and they'll be an even greater team coming up." Ifedi admits that how the team does will factor into his decision. "I just want to go where they are gonna have a good future," he said. "I don't want to go to a team that's 10-3 one year and then 1-10 the next year. I want consistency." Besides consistency, he's also looking for playing time. "I want a chance to play," he admitted. "I don't want to sit on a bench redshirting for three years." Although he's always lived in Texas, Ifedi admits that as a young child he liked Ohio State. "I don't know why," he said. "But lately I've just been watching the Texas teams like Houston, A&M and Tech." Ifedi says he does not have a timeframe for making a decision. "It won't be super early but it won't be at the end either," he said. "It might be sometime this summer or after my season." He says that location is not a factor in his decision. "I'm pretty good at pulling and I'm a good pass blocker," he said. "I think I move my feet quickly and I can get my body in front of people. "But I want to keep working on my conditioning and stay in shape," he said. "I want to improve my strength and get stronger and be more physical." He says he can bench 325-pounds and squat 450. Ifedi hopes to major in either business or engineering. He reports a 3.3 core GPA and is taking the SAT on April 13.
