Close to 400 athletes attended the MVP Camp at Lovejoy High School on Saturday and naming the top best at each position was not easy. There was competition everywhere you looked, but at the end of the day, here is took home the honors at each position.
Top Overall Performer
Jaquay Williams - Tyrone (GA) Sandy Creek - 2012
Quick Hitter: The wide receiver is far from polished and his best football is ahead of him, but he still was very impressive on Saturday. This was not an easy call because quite a few were under consideration, but at the end of the day, he had the votes. He showed great body control, good separation ability, and he knows how to use his size to his advantage.
Top Underclassman
Shaquille Wiggins - Atlanta (GA) Westlake - 2013
Quick Hitter: Just like the Top Overall Performer, this award was really up for grabs. About three or four participants could have walked away with this award, but in the end, Wiggins was the one. He was solid at corner all afternoon. He showed great recovery speed, nice ball skills, and he did not have many problems with the bigger receivers.
Quarterback
Jonathan Wallace - Phenix City (AL) Central - 2012
Quick Hitter: Wallace was the most consistent quarterback on the day. He delivered very catchable balls, got rid of the ball on time, and it came out of his hand with nice velocity.
Running Back
Mike Hilton - Tyrone (GA) Sandy Creek - 2012
Quick Hitter: Not many could get a hand on this young man during the one on one session. He has great cutting ability, he plays at a fast pace, and he has great acceleration. His hands are like a wide receivers and he has a lot of versatility.
Wide Receiver/Tight End
Jaquay Williams - Tyrone (GA) Sandy Creek - 2012
Quick Hitter: Williams was dominant at wide receiver. He made plays across the middle, down the field, and in traffic. He is a very strong wideout that has the speed to get vertical.
Offensive Lineman
Shamire DeVine - East Point (GA) Tri-Cities - 2013
Quick Hitter: He is only a sophomore, but Devine was one of the biggest participants in this camp. He moves very well for a guy his size and he has a strong upper body as well. He was strong in both the OL drills and the one on one session.
Defensive Lineman
Henry McClendon - Cleveland (TN) Cleveland - 2012
Quick Hitter: McClendon really knows how to come hard off the edge. He did a nice job of dipping his shoulder, getting under the offensive tackle, and exploding past him on Saturday. He is a strong end, he uses his hands well, and he is one to keep an eye on.
Linebacker
Reuben Foster - Lagrange (GA) Troup County - 2013
Quick Hitter: There was nothing not to like about Foster on Saturday. He was outstanding in coverage, he showed a lot of leadership, he responded well to the coaching he got, and he kept a smile on his face. The easiest thing to say about Foster is, he will be a national recruit in 2013.
Defensive Back
Shaquille Wiggins - Atlanta (GA) Westlake - 2013
Quick Hitter: What Wiggins is, is a cover corner. He may be on the smaller side, but he does not back down from any wide receiver. He loves to compete, he covers with confidence, and he showed very nice footwork on Saturday.
The MVP Camp has now made stops in Orlando, Fla. and Atlanta, Ga. in 2011 and it will be at Prattville High School in Alabama on April 23 next.
