At least one prospect at each position from the 2013 class stood out over the weekend at the MVP Camp in Hampton, Ga. Some actually took home awards in the end and here are some sophomores you need to keep an eye on in the coming years.
Quarterback
Brad Butler - 6-1/202 - Rome (GA) Darlington
Quick Hitter: Butler is like a veteran on the football field. He has been starting since his ninth grade year and he has great poise in the pocket to go with nice size.
Taylor Lamb - 6-1/185 - Calhoun (GA) Calhoun
Quick Hitter: Lamb throws a very good ball, he spins it well, and he really has good knowledge of the quarterback position.
Chase Rosenberg - 5-11/180 - Roswell (GA) Centennial
Quick Hitter: Rosenberg is a good athlete and his mobility is a real weapon at quarterback. He has a clean release as well.
Max Staver - 6-5/195 - Brentwood (TN) Brentwood Academy
Quick Hitter: Staver has the size you look for in a signal caller and he gets the ball out of his hand quickly for a big guy. He does a nice job of keeping his eyes down field also.
Running Back
Peyton Barber - 5-10/211 - Alpharetta (GA) Milton
Quick Hitter: Barber is a back with a good mix of power and quickness. He moved well throughout the MVP Camp and showed he could change direction.
Wide Receiver/Tight End
Marqui Hawkins - 6-1/198 - Columbus (GA) Carver
Quick Hitter: There is nothing about Hawkins' game that really jumps out, but he is very athletic, he makes plays on the ball well when it is in the air, and he gets off the ball well.
A.J. Jackson - 6-5/233 - Hampton (GA) Lovejoy
Quick Hitter: Jackson is a big athlete that could end up at tight end or defensive end on the next level. At this MVP Camp, he worked strictly at tight end and he caught the ball well.
Uriah LeMay - 6-1/200 - Matthews (NC) Butler
Quick Hitter: LeMay is a natural athlete that moves with great fluidity. He runs nice routes for a receiver his age also.
Rashad Mathis - 6-1/181 - Valdosta (GA) Valwood
Quick Hitter: Mathis is a physical wide receiver that uses his strength to his advantage. He could get a look as a safety on the next level as well.
Offensive Line
Bradley Bozeman - 6-4/318 - Roanoke (AL) Handley
Quick Hitter: Bozeman is one that could emerge into one of the top OLs in the state of Alabama. He has a good base, good strength, and the size you look for in a tackle.
Josh Cardiello - 6-3/289 - Buford (GA) Buford
Quick Hitter: Cardiello has some of the best feet in the state of Georgia. He comes off the ball low, he can get to the second level, and he is strong in fundamentals.
Shamire DeVine - 6-6/341 - East Point (GA) Tri-Cities
Quick Hitter: Devine walked away as the Top OL at this event. He impressed all coaches with his ability to move the way he does. He plays very light on his feet.
Jeremi Hall - 6-4/326 - East Point (GA) Tri-Cities
Quick Hitter: Hall is a strong interior lineman and he used his hands well and demonstrated nice power in this MVP Camp.
Josh Harris - 6-3/292 - Alpharetta (GA) Milton
Quick Hitter: Harris has good footwork and he showed a nice base at this MVP Camp.
Will Jones - 6-6/300 - Augusta (GA) Academy of Richmond County
Quick Hitter: Jones has the size all look for in an offensive tackle. He has good length and bend as well.
D.J. Park - 6-5/303 - Dillon (SC) Dillon
Quick Hitter: Park looks to be one of the top offensive tackles in the South in 2013. He was solid in all drills and won the battles in the one on one session.
Nhigel Phillips - 6-3/360 - Griffin (GA) Griffin
Quick Hitter: Phillips needs to keep his weight under control and drop about 30 pounds, but even with the 360 pounds, he moves well. If he drops that weight, he could emerge as a top guard prospect.
DeAndre Wise - 6-0/261 - Alpharetta (GA) Alpharetta
Quick Hitter: Wise is a natural center who understands the position, knows how to get his teammates in the right position, and he is on a number of radars already.
Defensive Line
James Ellison - 6-0/270 - Hamilton (GA) Harris County
Quick Hitter: Ellison has a very good first step off the ball. He needs to add weight, but his quickness is what stands out the most right now.
Kelsey Griffin - 6-1/284 - Hoschton (GA) Mill Creek
Quick Hitter: Griffin has a very good balance of upper and lower body strength. He comes off the ball low and he could emerge into an elite prospect in 2013.
Brian Whitaker - 6-2/213 - Macon (GA) Westside
Quick Hitter: Whitaker is still kind of a 'tweener' right now, but if his bod continues to develop, look for him to be recruited as a rush end. He has a nice frame to add the weight and he is athletic also.
Linebacker
Mario Mathis - 6-1/222 - Thomasville (GA) Thomasville
Quick Hitter: .Mathis is an athlete and he plays both sides of the ball in high school, but he will likely be recruited as an outside linebacker. He has good length, good range, and he has good speed
Reuben Foster - 6-1/222 - Lagrange (GA) Troup County
Quick Hitter: Foster was one of the top overall performers at this MVP Camp and he did everything well. What stood out as much as anything was him in coverage.
Defensive Back
Demetrius Monday - 5-9/185 - Eatonton (GA) Putnam County
Quick Hitter: Monday is a competitor who likes to battle with the receivers. He showed good recovery speed in this MVP Camp and he has nice ball skills as well.
Juston Mincy - 6-0/224 - Decatur (GA) Southwest Dekalb
Quick Hitter: Mincy could be Southwest Dekalb's top recruit in the 2013 class. He has good football savvy, he plays with intensity, and he has a great frame. He will likely end up at linebacker in college.
Bradley Newkirk - 6-0/180 - Warner Robins (GA) Houston County
Quick Hitter: Newkirk is a long corner with very good range on the edge. He likes to play the ball, but he is a very physical corner inside five yards as well.
DiQuan Roberts - 5-11/175 - Hamilton (GA) Harris County
Quick Hitter: Roberts is a quick corner with good length and good ball skills. He needs to work on his footwork, but he has potential.
Sherrod Ruff - 5-9/182 - Cordele (GA) Crisp County
Quick Hitter: On film, Ruff looks very good at running back, but in this MVP Camp, he worked at safety. He closes on the ball well, he has very good feet, and he likes to play physical.
Shaquille Wiggins - 5-8/154 - Atlanta (GA) Westlake
Quick Hitter: Wiggins is a natural at corner. His footwork and coverage skills are his strengths. He needs to add weight and work on playing off receivers.
