"Coach [Hugh] Freeze sent me an email asking me to call him, so I called him on Friday and he offered me a scholarship," said Kalan Reed. "It (Arkansas State) is my first offer and I like that. I was not expecting an offer from them, so it felt good. I had gotten only two letters from Arkansas State, so the offer was a surprise."
Reed has seen ASU on the television a couple of times and he feels they are a program on the rise, but he doesn't know much more than that about the Wolves at this stage.
The 5-foot-10, 183 pound corner out of Birmingham (AL) Briarwood Christian is hearing from a number of other schools like Arkansas, Auburn, Clemson, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, and Southern Miss. A number of schools want to see him at camp first because he is coming off an ACL injury in 2010.
If he shows the coaches at their camps what he showed multiple analysts at the MVP Camp in Atlanta last weekend (Scout's Southeastern Recruiting Analyst named Reed in his Top 12 Performers HERE), then he will add numerous offers.
"I felt I did good at the MVP Camp," he said. "It was my first time back competing since the injury and it was a lot of fun. I got to compete hard, I learned a lot about technique and press coverage, and it definitely got my name out there more."
Reed plans to attend a number of one days camps this summer and he remains open to all schools at this stage.
