3. Will Gross – 6-3/190 – Memphis (TN) Melrose
Simmons' Thoughts: Gross is a quarterback who has thrown for over 9,000 yards and 70 plus touchdowns over the last two seasons. He knows how to make quick decisions, the ball comes out of his hand quickly, and he can throw inside or outside the pocket. He has good mobility as well. I like how he keeps his feet moving in the pocket too. He has a small wind up when getting rid of the ball, so that is one area he can work on.
Recruiting: Louisville and Mississippi State are the top two for Gross right now and he could make a decision by the summer. He and his family loved their visit to Starkville and they want to check out Louisville soon.

4. Jeremy Liggins – 6-4/235 – Lafayette (FL) Oxford
Simmons' Thoughts: Liggins is a very gifted athlete for a guy with his size. He may a little better athlete at this time than he is an actual quarterback, but he does some very god things with the ball in his hands. He has an awkward delivery, but he gets the ball out of his hand quickly, he shows good accuracy, and he is very tough to bring down. He looks a lot like Rohan Davey in the pocket. He needs to work on his mechanics, but he has the ability to be a good signal caller on the next level.
Recruiting: Right now it appears that Liggins is leaning towards leaving his home state. He recently named Alabama, Auburn, and LSU as his top three. He has an impressive offer list and it does not appear that he is close to making any type of decision.

5. Bennie Coney – 6-2/210 –Plant City (FL) Plant City
Simmons' Thoughts: Coney is a quarterback that has a lot of things to like. He has a smooth delivery, he has a strong arm, and he is someone that can move his team down the field. He is a quarterback that is hot and cold. He is very streaky and when he is hot, he can stick the ball where it needs to be. He needs to work on his footwork, reading his progressions, and becoming a more consistent passer.
Recruiting: Florida State has always been the school that Coney has liked. Cincinnati, LSU, Michigan, and Notre Dame are currently schools he is listing high on his list at this time as well. He plans to take his official visits before he makes his decision.

South Region: Top Quarterbacks

Jameis Winston

Scout has already ranked 500 prospects and many more will be ranked as progress through the spring, summer, and the fall of 2010. Here is a look at the top quarterbacks in the South as we head into the spring.

South Region: Top Five Quarterbacks
1. Jameis Winston – 6-4/200– Hueytown (AL) Hueytown
Simmons' Thoughts: Winston is a versatile quarterback that can not only hurt defenses with his arm, but with his legs too. He is an athletic quarterback with a love arm and size that coaches look for in a signal caller. He can make all throws needed and he just needs to improve his consistency with his accuracy.
Recruiting: Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, and LSU look to be the main schools involved with Winston at this point as he closes in on his decision. He claims to be open and he will be making a decision late in the spring or early in the summer.

2. Greyson Lambert – 6-5/202 – Jesup (GA) Wayne County
Simmons' Thoughts: Lambert is a tall quarterback who is not scared to sit in the pocket. He is a true pocket passer with a good arm. The ball comes out of his hand hot and he has also shown good touch as well. He still needs to work on his footwork and mobility, but he is not going to be a guy hurting defenses with his legs, he is a true passer.
Recruiting: Lambert has been picking up new offers here lately – schools like Miami, Boston College, and Virginia have recently pulled the trigger. Alabama was first to offer and schools like Clemson, Georgia, and North Carolina State. He is open at this time.

3. Will Gross – 6-3/190 – Memphis (TN) Melrose
Simmons' Thoughts: Gross is a quarterback who has thrown for over 9,000 yards and 70 plus touchdowns over the last two seasons.
