1on1 SHOWCASE Jville: QB MVP

Posted Apr 14, 2011

The 1on1 SHOWCASE Camp in Jacksonville was strong at the quarterback position and no one was more impressive there than Freedom High's Derik Abbott.

Derik Abbott took home QB MVP honors at the camp and talked about it.

"It was a great experience," Abbott said. "I really enjoyed all the competition and getting a chance to throw to and compete against kids from all over the state of Florida. And I was happy to win the Top QB award."

Abbott, 6-feet and 190 pounds, talked about the latest with recruiting.

"Some of the schools I like are Pittsburgh, Indiana, USF, Middle Tennessee, and Ole Miss," he said. "I grew up a Pittsburgh fan. My dad went there and I'm from there and have a lot of family there. I went to their camp a few years in a row and the coaches, who have since moved on, liked me."

Abbott, who broke 14 school records as a junior last season, talked about what he's looking for in a school.

"The style of offense, the coaching staff, and where it's located are important," he said. "It has to be the right offense. I wanna be in an offense that allows me to throw the ball."
