"I am hearing from North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, LSU, Air Force, UCF, and South Florida," said Alex Lakes. "I do not have any offers yet, but I think Georgia Tech and Air Force could be close."
One thing schools like about Lakes is his versatility. He is being recruited by the Yellow Jackets to play one position and by the Falcons to play another.
"Some schools have talked to me about being recruited as an athlete, but Air Force likes me as a running back and Georgia Tech likes me as a safety. I have played more running back, but either position is fine with me. I just want to get on the field and play."
He has visited four schools in 2011 that he would not mind getting on the field and playing for and he talks a little about each school.
Georgia Tech: "I really like their graduation rate and I know if I get a degree from their, then it would be a good one. They have great academics."
LSU: "I was surprised by the size of the school when I visited there. I did not expect for it to be that big. I also liked their facilities and I like how they are a top notch SEC program."
North Carolina: "When I went up there, I saw how they are expanding on to the stadium and I liked that. I also liked their weight room and overall facilities."
Wake Forest: "Wake Forest is a smaller school than the rest and I liked that about them. They have good academics and I like their facilities too."
Right now, three schools stand out above the rest for this 5-foot-11, 192 pound athlete out of Newnan (GA) Northgate. Georgia Tech, LSU, and North Carolina are his top three, but that all could change once offers begin to come in.
"I am going to look at all of the schools that recruit me," he said. "I have visited those three schools, they have a lot of things I like, and that is who I like the most right now."
Lakes had 1,000 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns and 40 tackles with one interception in 2010. He also carries a 2.9 GPA and he has already scored a 1310 on the SAT.
