There is no shortage of talent at Alvin (TX) Manvel High. In fact, there is much more here than plenty of other programs in the area. One of those is offensive lineman Taylor Romero.
Scout.com visited with Manvel coach Kirk Martin to get to know his top lineman a little better.
"Romero is a strong kid and is a power lifter. He is mean and nasty coming off the ball," Martin said. "I think he will get some offer this off season. Several teams are close to offering now."
For now, the 6-foot-2, 275-pound Romero lines up at tackle for Manvel, but is projected to play the center position at the collegiate level. Boise State, New Mexico, Oregon State and Houston have all been by and walked away impressed.
Now, just one more step stands in between Romero and landing his first offer.
"The offensive line coaches from these programs have come by here and seen his video. They like what they see," Martin said. "It has to be approved by the head coach and then they will offer. I think it will happen here soon."
Martin said that the coaches feel that he would be a good fit for the center position because of his athleticism.
"The coaches love how he finishes blocks," Martin said.
Quick Analysis on Romero: Plays tackle for Manvel, but will be better suited for center at the next level. He has great feet and a strong base when pass blocking. When on the attack, Romero fires off well and usually results in a pancake.
See for yourself.
