Walker Talks First Offer
Central Michigan has had good success recruiting in the Land of Lincoln over the years, and they are hoping to continue that this year, offering several of the top players in the state, including Chicago Brother Rice running back Martez Walker. The Chippewas were the first to offer the 5'10, 185-lb Walker, and he says after months of waiting, it was a thrill to hear those words. "It feels good. There is a lot of pressure off me. I took a visit there and it was nice." Walker is being recruited on both sides of the ball, but says the Chippewas offered him as an offensive player. Why not? Last season, Walker averaged eight yards a carry while amassing 985 yards for the season and 14 total touchdowns. He also was his team's leading receiver. The other schools recruiting him right now are Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Ball State, Purdue, Georgia Tech, Arizona, and Illinois. So far, the only visit he has taken, other than Central Michigan, was to Illinois for their junior day. "It went good," he said. "They said they want to see me at their one day camp this summer." Walker says he is not sure of his full camp schedule, but Champaign will definitely be one of his stops. He also says that with the spring evaluation starting, there will be a few schools stopping in. "I believe Purdue's coming in."
