SE Badger 7v7: Kyle Russell

Quarterback Kyle Russell has the unique perspective of playing in two Badger Sport Southeast Regional tournaments. Russell was part of the 2010 team that won the regional title and the 2011 squad that came up short, but still earned an invite to nationals. Kyle hopes that the exposure will give him a springboard into his all important junior year.

"I think this year's team is more athletic," said Kyle. "I feel like this team is faster, but last year we had more people who could go up and get the ball."

Russell is just finishing up his sophomore year of high school, but he has already been a part of several events.

This summer has plans to take part in several college summer camps.

"I am going to try to get in as many camps as I can get in," said Kyle. "I am probably going to the Manning camp and several camps around my area."

West Lauderdale will look to get back on track this year after a tough year in 2010. Russell, like many of his teammates, is eager to get things going.

"We start spring practice in about two weeks," said Kyle. "This year we have to find out which plays are best and who can play each position the best.

"We're looking pretty good. We have to find some guys on the offensive line. We're a little young there this year.

"I am working to get faster and learning to read defenses better."
