Gant Enjoys Recruiting Process
Although he has been well-known in Ohio since bursting onto the scene as a freshman, Sylvania Southview's Allen Gant hasn't really gotten the attention of some others in the past year, but he is still on the recruiting radar of several top programs. Gant, 6-foot-2, 205-pounds, stars at safety for his high school, but he could project as a linebacker at the next level. He currently holds eight offers, including West Virginia, Boston College and Stanford. "Things are going great for me, and I have eight offers right now," Gant explained. "Cincinnati would be the latest one and I was happy to receive that one. I've had a lot of colleges come to see me run track this spring, and recently it has been Purdue, Michigan State, Ohio State, Illinois and Kentucky." "I'm planning to go to camps at Ohio State and Michigan to work out, and I will be going to a few others but not working out," he added. "I'm enjoying the recruiting process a lot, and it has been great being able to meet so many great coaches. I haven't found the process stressful at all." Ohio State and Michigan aren't just the only two schools he is going to work out for, but also two of the earliest schools that started recruiting Gant. "Things are good with Ohio State, and (assistant coach) Doc Tressel was at one of my track meets recently," he said. "I'm not sure what's going on down there right now with everything, but I'm still interested and I'm definitely going to go to camp." "The new staff at Michigan has told me they want to see me in camp," he added. "They see me as a strong safety in their system, and I'm very interested in them. Penn State has shown interest, and I'd love to hear more from them. They invited me to the spring game, but I couldn't go because of track." Gant also in both basketball and track, so he wasn't able to attend any junior days, or take any visits throughout the winter and spring, but he plans on seeing a few schools this summer. "Ohio State and Michigan are the camps I'm going to work out at," Gant stressed. "I'm going out to visit Illinois, West Virginia, Boston College, Iowa and Purdue. Iowa said they really liked my highlight tape, but they want to see me in person." With great offers in hand and several top programs showing interest, Gant understands how tough it will be to make his final decision. "There are so many great schools I'm interested in, so I'm going to take my time," he stated. "I'm going to be taking all five official visits in the fall, and I won't probably make an announcement until a few weeks before Signing Day. I will use the five visits as a guide to making my decision."
