Becoming eligible for the Class of 2011 after the National Signing Period has come and gone, offensive tackle Chris Stringer has found himself a wanted man as schools look to add a talented big man to their list of signees. Here is a look at Stringer in action.
Junior College offensive tackle
Chris Stringer
(6'7/295) was late to the Class of 2011, but now that the pool of talent to choose from is almost dry, Stringer finds himself a wanted man with several schools trying to fill last minute scholarship openings.
Stringer was declared eligible after his first year of junior college football at Citrus Community College through a special waiver process that included early graduation. While he was late to be added to the pool of prospective student athletes for the Class of 2011, he was equally late to actually playing the offensive tackle position.
Stringer didn't began playing offensive tackle until late in his senior year in high school, and it's apparent when grading the finer points of playing the position. Stringer doesn't use his hands as well as he could, sometimes dropping them low before embracing a defender and letting his man get inside of his arms and into his chest. Also hurting his ability to get the initial advantage off the snap is the fact that he plays high initially.
But when it comes to the raw talent needed to play offensive tackle, Stringer is impressive. He has terrific size and plays with good strength. Despite the fact that he'd give up the leverage battle early off the snap with a defender into his chest, Stringer was rarely if ever pushed backward. He's a terrific drive blocker and shows good athleticism pulling and getting to the second level.
Stringer is more than just a big body who is getting scholarships to fill holes on a depth chart; Stringer is a legit prospect who has a chance to be an early contributor at the school of his choosing. He has four years to play three, but it's unlikely he'll use a redshirt at the school he chooses.
