Two of the West's top prospects land big offers from a national power in this week's notebook..…
One-on-One with Cali's Top Tight End
Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick, the 6-6 foot, 250-pound tight end from Rocklin (Calif.) Whitney, has offers from almost all of the Pac-12 conference. However the four-star says, "I am open to exploring other conferences other than just the Pac-12. I have offers from Washington, Washington State, California, Colorado, Oregon State, UCLA, Utah, Nebraska." Cope-Fitzpatrick has yet to reveal his leader board but in the meantime he highlighted what stood out about the schools he has already visited, which include Washington, UCLA, Cal, and USC. "I attended the Washington spring game, where I had a chance to see the campus and meet the coaches," said said Cope-Fitzpatrick. "I liked the coaching style. At practice they were blaring music, which included some of James Brown's hits. It was a high-energy environment, which was great." As a California native, Cope-Fitzpatrick has already visited all of the Golden State schools. "I went to one of Cal's practices," said said Cope-Fitzpatrick. "I liked the coaches and their coaching style. They seemed to really focus on the fundamentals of the game. It was a more laid-back environment. I am attracted to their highly regarded academic program, and it being close to home." Cope-Fitzpatrick also visited one of UCLA's Spring Practices during the spring. "UCLA sticks out because there seems to be a strong player-coach relationship," said said Cope-Fitzpatrick. "I like the new coaching staff, the gorgeous camps, and how it's right in the middle of a big city." Cope-Fitzpatrick is hoping to receive an offer from USC soon. Cope-Fitzpatrick is in regular contact with Coach (Clay) Helton and has also has developed a relationship with USC's new tight end coach. He will be attending USC's Rising Stars Camp in June. More offers are just around the corner for Cope-Fitzpatrick. Especially since Whitney has been generating a lot of traffic from coaches all around the country. "We are having lots of coaches come to practice in the next two weeks. Finding out what schools will be attending practice is like opening a present every day. Last week coaches from Cal and Iowa came out to watch," said Cope-Fitzpatrick. Cope-Fitzpatrick has also being getting some recent attention from schools outside the Pac-12. "I have recently been hearing from Notre Dame, Miami and Florida. I am interested in all of those programs, and would be excited to get offers from them," said Cope-Fitzpatrick.
