Miami has a major need at the defensive tackle position heading into the summer and they helped that some by adding Corey King to its 2011 recruiting class.
At 6-foot-1 and 265 pounds, King was a first team All-Area pick in Palm Beach County as a senior in 2010. He finished the season with 56 tackles and seven sacks.
King lacks ideal size inside but plays with good quickness and makes a lot of plays in opposing backfields. What he lacks in size, he makes up for in quickness, strength, and athleticism.
King was committed to FIU for awhile but didn't sign with them in February because he wasn't qualified academically. He now is and inked with the Canes on Wednesday.
“Corey King is a great addition to our already deep class,” said defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio. “He has tremendous strength and athletic ability. He is weight-room strong, benching 400 pounds.”
There's a chance Miami could still add more players to its 2011 class later this spring/summer.
